My love of yoga…
My love affair with yoga began 17 years ago. At this time I lived in a very small town in Northern Alberta. So needless to say, there were not yoga studios close by. One day as was leaving a store I noticed a yoga DVD and thought I would try it out.
So I started my journey, I bought a second DVD. This one I loved and yoga started to become a regular part of my daily routine.
Not long after that, myself and my daughter moved to Cornwall, Ontario. Within a day or two of being there, I joined the yoga studio that I found. I began to go everyday during my lunch break. The owner and I became the very best of friends, and we still are.
Not too long after I began at the studio, the owner asked if I had ever thought of teaching. Before leaving Cornwall, I was teaching up to seven classes per week, including kids yoga.
Suffering from anorexia at the time, I found yoga helped me focus on something other than my body and food. I found a peace after I practiced and taught classes.
Due to my anorexia, I had to leave my job and go on long term disability. It got the point where I began a day treatment program in Ottawa four days a week. I still managed to teach up to seven classes per week. I was practicing as well, in a studio in Ottawa. This is where my love of hot yoga was born.
Eventually we moved to New Brunswick, to a small town close to Fredericton. I immediately found a studio where I could continue teaching. When this studio closed I taught at the local library of the town in which we lived.
Then a miracle happened, hot yoga came to Fredericton. I was beside myself with excitement. Hot yoga became part of my regular schedule. The way I felt after, was such peace.
As you know yoga is expensive, so slowly my practice of hot yoga became very scarce due to financial reasons. I believe this seriously effected my moods, as anxiety and depression go hand in hand with anorexia. All three were slowly getting worse.
Last night I am happy to report that I started at a hot yoga studio. They have a program in which you work there for three hours a week and you get unlimited yoga for free!!
I am so excited to be starting this journey……
